Dental caries: a common enemy
Dental caries, nowadays, are one of the most common dental problems affecting children, to such an extent that more than the 60% of kids suffer from this pathology one or several times throughout their life.
It is a chronic and multifactorial infectious disease influenced by the oral, genetic and hygienic-dietetic behavior of the patient.
How to prevent dental caries?
Fortunately, the appearance of caries can be prevented and, for this reason, the Dentistry Unit of the Vithas Xanit International Hospital, has implanted a saliva test, which will reduce the appearance of this pathology by 80%.
This test allows to know, through the characteristics of the saliva of the patient, the predisposition to suffer decay in order to help its prevention.
As explained by Dr. Alberto Cuevas Millán, Head of the Dentistry Unit at Vithas Xanit International Hospital, “The saliva test has as objective to detect if the changes in the status of the saliva can be a factor that intervene in the imbalance of the oral health”.
This system allows to detect if the levels of acid in the saliva are dangerously high. In the case of high acid levels, the dentist will plan an appropriate treatment aimed to prevent and reduce the future appearance of caries in the patient.
Dr. Cuevas Millán explains that “One of the main advantages of the saliva test is that it is a painless test, very simple, as it will be done with a few special strips in a few seconds. In addition, the result may be known on the same day or in the following days”.
