Neurosciencies Department

The Vithas Xanit International Hospital Neurosciences Department has been designed to attend patients suffering from most nervous system disorders.
It includes medical specialties like Neurology, Psychiatry, Neurophysiology, Clinical Psychology, Neuro-Psychology or Speech Therapy.

All patients, whatever their culture and nationality, are treated with a multidisciplinary, multilingual and personalized approach to answer fittingly their pathologies.
Specialists provide all types of specific care in the following languages: English, Russian, Finish, Estonian, French, Swedish, apart from the support often provided by the International Services Department.

We assess on these types of pathologies in out or inpatients (acute patients) and offer strategies like the intravenous, arterial or mechanical thrombolysis. These particular approaches all comply with the stated in the protocols agreed by the ICU, interventional neuro-radiology and vascular surgery experts. An experienced neurologist can be reached 24 hours a day, all year round, and any urgent radiological tests can be performed to reduce the time elapsed between diagnosis and treatment.
At Vithas Xanit International, our experts attend our international patients in Spanish, English, Russian, Finish, Estonian, French and Swedish.

These outpatient integral evaluations are performed by multilingual staff to study their chronic pain, a pathology that impacts very seriously on their quality of life. Non oral treatment strategies like the occipital nerve blocks or treatments with botulinum toxin are used together with psychiatric and psychology support… (Our experts attend our medical tourism patients in Spanish, English, Russian, Finish, Estonian).

The scope of action of the area englobes a valuation of patients with dystonias, twitches, tremors and choreas, among others. Other patients with no possibility of oral treatment, like the Parkinson disease ones, particularly those affected at advanced stages, in need of alternative strategies are also attended.
In our center, many tests are performed and subcutaneous infusing like the anti-Parkinsonian drug called Apomorphine can also be provided (no hospitalization is needed as it is a day hospital treatment). Other necessary procedures such as the insertion of a device administrating intra-jejunal Duodopa (inpatient treatment) are performed to improve life-quality of patients and their relatives.
The Nuclear Medicine Department cooperates with us to carry out some functional neuro imaging testings (DatSCAN, myocardial MIBG, etc). When dystonias or spasticity is observed, an electromyography and/or echography-directed botulinum toxin administration may be used to treat very specific muscles.
(Our experts attend in Spanish, English, French).

We provide an integral study and follow up of patients affected by these kinds of pathologies and control the efficiency of new immune modulation responses of the therapeutic strategies offered. Some necessary and routine tests, like the bone marrow punctures, are performed, and Neuro-physiology experts coordinate with us to measure evoked potentials. The electro retinography, a very complex and laborious technique carried out by a specifically trained expert, is one of these provided testings.
Other Neuropsychology experts cooperate to assess on the cognitive functions of these often young patients.
(Our experts attend in Spanish, English and Swedish).

We evaluate and follow on different types of epilepsies. A specifically trained expert in neurology works together with the Mental Health Unit (Psychiatry/ Clinical Psychology experts) and with a Neuropsychology specialist to assess on cognitive levels which is often basic for these patients. Neurophysiology specialists also participate to complete different tests like electroencephalographies, allowing to study sleep patterns during daytime or during more complex 5-days in-patient monitoring, performed in the “Neuroscience Sleep Disorders Unit”.
(Our experts attend in English).

The proper assessment on these types of medical disorders (usually quite complex ones) is carried out by an expert and a Neurophysiological specialist to perform electromyography and electroneurography tests where inner peripheral and nervous system affectation can be measured. Other experts from the Internal Medicine, Endocrinology, Rheumatology and Nephrology Departments also collaborate with us.
(Our experts attend our international patients in Spanish and English).

Our Psychiatrists and Clinical Psychologists are experts trained to treat the quite complex and frequent links that exist between the neurological and psychiatric symptoms, of affective and psychotic origin. We focus on the control of dementia conducts or on the symptoms of psychosomatic pathologies. The initial assessment is performed firstly from a medical point of view (psychiatry consultation) and then widened with psychotherapy (clinical psychology consultations) to help patient and their relatives face the issue. Our Department shows a particular interest in addiction withdrawal techniques so our specifically trained experts also provide help to tackle all major addictions

We offer specialized assessment for any kinds of disorders like the autism spectrum disorder, the attention deficit disorder -with or without hyperactivity-, the learning disability or the personality disorders. Our professional team of specific children and teenagers psychiatrists and neuropsychologists provide an initial evaluation of patients and relatives to offer the best therapeutical approaches and strategies with excellent results. Other complementary tests provided are the P300 analysis, a very useful Neurophysiology technique for particularly complex cases.
(Our experts attend in Spanish and English).

This open structure in our Department allows all professionals to get involved in society as they attend personally both patients and relatives, and participate in Clinical Investigations, Doctoral Thesis, Pre and Post graduate Teaching either in Spanish or foreign Universities and in constant communication activities.
